What is at the core of what you and your business provides for the world? How do you bring your passion and profession to the table to make an impact?
In 2020, Hawai‘i's rate of new entrepreneurs was 0.41%, meaning 4.1 out of every 1,000 adults became new entrepreneurs in a given month, surpassing the national average of 0.34%. (Kauffman Indicators of Entrepreneurship)
Post Covid-19 pandemic, people are inspired to bring what they offer to the next level after realizing how quickly things can change.
Now is the time for new entrepreneurs to rise to the challenge of turning their passions into pay checks, especially here in Hawai‘i where Covid struck business hard.
What does this mean for the rest of the ecosystem?
New niches, more diversity, refined specialization, and creative ways of working.
As of August 31, 2021, approximately 42.4% of private-sector payroll employees in the state were working remotely, including 20,636 individuals working from out-of-state. (State of Hawai‘i Public Business, Economic Development & Tourism)
Additionally, a survey conducted in 2023 revealed that 57% of employees in Hawaii prefer remote or hybrid work arrangements, while only 44% of employers agree with this preference. This disparity highlights the evolving expectations of the workforce and the ongoing discussions around flexible work policies in the state. (Hawai‘i Business Magazine)
Alongside evolving business models are also evolving productivity models and challenges.
People are finding convenience in skipping a commute and a dress code but seeking solace from their laundry and attention-needing pets at home.
Businesses are finding ways to meet employees half way on their newfound remote work expectations with hybrid hours and external offices.
Rising in popularity is the solution of cowork spaces like Treehouse Coworking. With flexible 24/7 access that is compartmentalized for productivity, more casual than a corporate office, but just enough social interaction to support mental health, employees are finding a balance in this new workforce era.
Teams are realizing they can still meet at a regular space without paying for the demand that was previously required for people to come into office every day by renting individual office spaces, buying team cowork packages, or hosting a few in-person gatherings for big meetings or events.
People are finding ways of working better. As the times change, we change with it.
